Survey closed. Analysis open.

The survey for womenonporn.org closed on the 31st of December, 2016, with participation greatly exceeding initial expectations.

A total of 2,042 women responded over the 3 months the survey was live, with a huge range in personal characteristics, positions on pornography, and individual experiences. Requests to participate also came from women living outside of the UK, and young women under the cut-off age of 18. This alone shows the huge need for this research, and points to the possibilities for future work on the range of women's views on pornography.

Thank you to all of the women who shared their personal stories, thoughts, revelations, and complications, so openly and honestly. The research process is such a site of privilege. A word often used pejoratively but here linked to the experience of human connection - something sorely needed after the year we've all just had. Already the survey has prompted insights and questions I never anticipated. And it's just the beginning.

The survey also received support and promotion from hundreds of people and organisations. The intention to get the survey out as widely as possible, to speak to the range of views and experiences available, was realised due to the actions of everyone who shared, posted, commented and tagged - thank you all. A particular shout out goes to the kind support of Gal-Dem, the Women's Equality Party, Mumsnet, Sh! Women's Erotic Emporium, BBC 5Live Daily, and Caitlin Moran.

If you missed out in participating in the survey but would like to share your views on mainstream, online pornography, there is still a chance to talk in person. The research conversations will be happening in various locations across the UK from February until July. You can get in touch here to book one in.

Analysis of the survey will be running over the next few months, and hopefully at least some initial results will be available to share here in March, 2017. Keep an eye on this website for updates or you can follow the project through Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
